The truth behind cheapness of Coastal Scents. Fake MAC.

Since it's April Fool's day what can we found better to talk about but fools? :D
And what if we combine it with our favorite subject - beauty?

One of the reasons why i actually wanted to write about this is because since i do aloooot of research online i found some interesting theories about some famous brands. Well brand to be exact - Coastal Scents. Almost everyone interested in make-up knows this brand and owns their 88 palette. I do to. I bought it from their website directly a while ago. Everything is great. I like the quality, the palette is really well pigmented, it was cheap, i got amazingly kind costumer service (they answered tons of my e-mails very fast)
The question is - why i only had to pay 18 dollars for the whole pallette, when alot of people compare their shadows to MAC brand, which costs 14 dollars per unit. And here i got even 88 different colours. The thing is... everything from Coastal Scents are made in Hong Kong or somewhere near by. It's not being made in some lab by CS. Just some mass production factory. The original price of the pallette is no more than 5 bucks. I did research on ebay and found out that you can find the EXACT SAME pallette with that price and NO IT'S NOT FAKE. It's just the same pallette from the same factory just not being sold by CS. Just search for "88 palette" not Coastal Scents pallette. They are often called "Pro" or "Proffesional" palettes. Ofcourse how ebay works - you find cheap product and excitment goes down when you see the price of shipping, but if you lurk long enough you can find really cheap deals, from best rated sellers with low product and shipping price. My friend bought a palette like this from ebay and with everything included she paid circa 12 dollars. We compared the palettes and they were identical.
Coastal Scents is company founded by neat people, who buys stuff for cents and sells them to us with higher price.

Oh my, that sounded really harsh. I didn't mean to, just want to share what i found out :)

Another thing which has been widely discussed - Fake MAC products. When it comes to MAC, i strongly don't recomend buying these products from ebay. Unless they are limited edition items, there's a small chance that you'll find honest seller and purchase the real deal. And actually limited edition items are often being re-released, so no need to hunt for them and risk on ebay.
There also are lots of websites that claims to sell "real" MAC and other quality brand products relatively cheap. Oh yes, they are fake. Probobly one of the biggest that i saw was brush111.com. The selection they have may throw you off... but when you analyze products and photos better you can see that they are fake. First of all MAC ALWAYS names their lipsticks, lipglasses, eyeshadows etc. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM has a name. Not number.
The funniest thing was that they sell "Mac 180pc eyeshadow palette".
I mean come on... you can really see that it's just the same eyeshadows from "CS". Mac doesn't have such thing as this palette. Oh, and also - MAC never sells products with sponge brushes or just brushes in them.... :)
I feel like i could talk more about this, but i already said enough...I mean if you guys won't hear from me in next few days consider me killed by fake MAC mafia lol. I don't want to say that "MAC" products are bad, cause i actually never tried fake ones, but if you want to have the real thing always be aware of what and where are you buying your cosmetics :) Don't fall into the trap seduced by cheap price.

So if you have anything you want to say, or share your experience with fake products leave a comment below :)

  7. I purchased a 120 palette from ebay for about $14 and I dont think it's bad. The colors are the same as the ones pictured above, for the most part.

I do wonder though, I've heard good things about Coastal Scents brushes, are those just fake mac/bobbie brown brushes? Fake hype?

  8. Thanks for the great article! Really informative. I also have a CS 88 palette and love it. However since I bought it, I did find some cheaper ones that are the exact same...but it is still reasonably priced, and oh well, they have to make their money somehow as well. As long as we both make a good deal, its good with me:)

  12. thanks for this post doll! i am a huge MAC lover, but yes it is an expensive habit! i used to work in a cosmetics lab, and came to find that mostly all makeup is made from the same raw materials, you are just paying for the packaging/brand name. i will check out this palette, it sounds amazing!

  13. Thanks for the great post about CS. I know a lot of people feel these are MAC dupes but I disagree. It's hard to justify purchasing them when you can find tons on ebay.

  15. Mmm, interesting! I've been looking into these palettes and wondering why there were some labelled MAC that were the same as the cheaper brands - CS, Fraulein, Manly etc. So, it's all the same stuff with varying labels - some of them plain dishonest!

There are also some rumours about that these shadows are made with lead as one of the ingredients, coming from China. Any info on this to hand??

  18. Thank you makeup majesty. I dont even have to comment now. But I will say this. Why pay 3x 4x 5x the price for something just because it says MAC. It is all the same thing/same manufacturers. I dont like to be ripped off but I do love good quality low cost items. Coastal Scents palletes are really good for the price.

  29. Well, let me tell you there really is no comparison between cheap shadows like Coastal Scents/BH Cosmetics and MAC. MAC shadows are very high quality and they apply flawlessly. These cheap CS/BH shadows are fine..but often times chalky and have to be applied wet in order to look right. Don't get me wrong, they really aren't bad. But, you can't say that MAC shadows aren't worth the money because in all honesty, as a pro makeup artist, MAC shadows are the ones I trust the most and use professionally the most.

How to Make Your Hair Grow Faster

Sorry so much for beeing m.i.a. for a while, i've been busy as hell, cause i was studying on my history pre finals... Do you know, that something really boring happened to someone really ugly in the middle ages? Anyway, i aced it, and i can dedicate slightly more time to blogging :) So i was at the hair salon earlier this week, to get them dyed and trimmed. I dye my hair way too  much. The color of it changes more than the shape of my eyebrows... I can't really remember my natural hair colour. It has been strawberry blond, bright red, aubergine, brown, mahagony..... I can go on for a while actually..... So i decided to make it nice and natural now, i came out chocollaty brown. It's so different from what i've had. So i'm in my hairdressers chair, we're chatting and she says to me, that she noticed that i am a lot thinner than i were (thanks, but that's not a compliment for me) and that i have alot of new baby hair growing (yay). I never really noticed t

Best and Worst drugstore foundations. Maybelline vs. L'oreal.

I've been using drugstore foundations forever, cause i can't really afford high-end stuff. I'm a grad-student, and  i allready spend all my money on cosmetics. I live in Europe, so stuff like MAC or Lush is non-existant here. Well at least not in my country. (Let's make the "Aaaaaaw..." sound now all together). Let's not make it sound like the edge of the world though, we have kinda everything else here... most of the popular drugstore brands, most of the high end brands... Most of the popular clothing stores....except the Forever 21... (1...2....3... awwwww) Anyway since i've used almost every drugstore foundation there is i'd liked to share my opinion of which i thought is best and which is.... well let's call it "not-so-much".... So i'd like to give the name of Best Drugstore foundation to Maybelline's Dream Satin Liquid .   It's cheaper than the foundation that i'd like to call "not-so-much", but it w
